Interview with TORCH director Chris Kim

We are pleased to present an interview with Chris Kim, who joined TORCH as a director in December 2023.

― What did you do before joining TORCH?

Most recently, I spent 6 years at a major recruitment agency, where I was a Senior Manager overseeing 2 teams providing recruitment support in the manufacturing industry, achieving No.1 results in the manufacturing sector for 3 consecutive years and being named the top headhunter out of over 200 consultants among all.

― Why did you choose a career as a recruitment consultant?

I was greatly influenced by learning from my real-life experience.

As my first career, I joined a foreign automaker, but then moved onto the next company quite soon. The first company was great, but I felt it was not the best fit as I chose it based on its brand, without really facing what I wanted.
Through this, I realized finding a new job is a major life decision and I wanted to provide that support to others.

― What is the greatest aspect of your consultant job?

I find it great when I can provide the best match for both the job seekers and the company, and then see the growth of both.

For example, I once worked with a company that had a high turnover rate. We defined the problem and introduced them to someone who wanted to solve such a problem. Later, that person achieved significant career advancement at the company, and the company's situation improved dramatically thanks to that person.

― Why did you join TORCH?

Because I empathized with its philosophy of being truly close to both job seekers and companies, and pursuing what is best for both.

In the recruitment industry in general, there are often strict numerical quotas, and tendencies to chase short-term numbers. This can lead to a lack of time for in-depth discussions with job seekers and companies.

At TORCH, we can be close to both, based on the strong desire of our CEO. Because we specialize in the industrial automation industry, we are able to build deep relationships with companies and understand their hiring conditions, background, and culture. We are not just connecting job seekers and companies, but work side by side during the selection process and offer negotiations to ensure that both have a deep mutual understanding.

Here, I can embody exactly the type of career support I wanted to do. I believe I can help job seekers increase their market value and at the same time increase my own value as a consultant. I would also like to change the way the entire recruitment industry works.

― Any messages for job seekers?

Now changing jobs has become more common. It is an important option for improving your skills and value.

However, do not change jobs in a hurry. It is important to think about what you really want and what you can do, and then change jobs after reaching a mutual understanding with a company. Please feel free to contact us for advice on organizing your intentions and discussing your long-term career!
