Founder Interview Part 1

We would like to present an interview with Ryuoh Yamauchi, the Founder and CEO of TORCH.

― What is TORCH?

TORCH is a recruitment agency specializing in “Industrial Automation” and has particular strengths in Factory Automation, Logistics Automation and Robotics, leveraging my own experience and knowledge in automation and recruitment.

― Why did you start TORCH?

I have worked as a procurement for a manufacturing company, as a recruitment consultant for a major recruitment agency for the manufacturing industry, and as a recruiter for a robotics startup.

When I was working as a recruiter for the robotics industry, I became keenly aware that great people specializing in technology and industry are extremely valuable. It was a wonderful experience to have them share the company’s vision, to have them join us, and to be part of the process of growing the company together as colleagues.

On the other hand, when you oversee recruiting for one company, no matter how many wonderful people you meet, you cannot hire them if they do not match the position that your company is looking for. I sometimes felt disappointed that I had to reject great candidates as we didn’t have suitable vacancies at that time.

Furthermore, recruiting for companies in the robotics and industrial automation industries requires extensive and in-depth knowledge and is extremely difficult. I also felt that it is difficult for job seekers to grasp their own market value, that there are few opportunities to learn about career possibilities, and that it is not easy to find a company that will fully utilize the experience they have cultivated.

I wanted to solve the recruitment and career change problems in the industry, to make the industry more exciting by realizing the right people for the right jobs, and to create an ecosystem of talent. With this mission, I founded TORCH in 2020.

― What are unique features of TORCH?

Because we specialize in industrial automation, we have established deep relationships with companies in the industry. This enables us to propose companies and positions based on our understanding of the intent of the job, hiring background, company conditions and culture, and attractive and challenging points. In addition, each consultant has in-depth knowledge of the industry, so they can smoothly understand your experience and skills, and provide career advice that is in line with your intentions.
